In reaction to the wedding event that took place in Jeita Grotto, IndyACT highly condemns this reckless event. The Jeita Grotto is not just a cave it’s a national treasure and a global landmark, recognized by the international community for its uniqueness.
Jeita was already suffering from dryness caused by the heat and humidity of regular visitors. A cave is alive its stalactites and stalagmites continuously grow. When it dries, this process stops, the walls darken, and its luster fades.
The wedding held inside Jeita is another reckless event that will forever stain the record of the Jeita Municipality. It exposes negligence, ignorance, and the power of money over responsibility.
This decision by the municipality is, unfortunately, a clear indication of its incompetence to hold its position.
“We all need to understand the importance of our natural treasures this is what makes Lebanon unique among all nations on earth.” Said Hala Kilani, IndyACT’s President.
In relation to Jeita, IndyACT is calling for an action plan to be developed for its rehabilitation, including a visitor management plan to limit human impact and preserve its beauty for generations to come
